These 4 Things Are Stopping You From Reaching Your Goal

Setting goals can be both exciting and intimidating. Exciting because it's something new to work at and the satisfaction of improving at a new area. Intimidating, because failing to reach them is embarrassing and gives a blow to the ego. Not reaching a goal brings on feelings of inadequacy. These are at least 3 things we all do that hold us back from reaching our goals:

1. Not drowning yourself in the information: Have you ever heard “What you focus on, grows?” Exactly. When setting a new goal, it is super-helpful to get as much information as possible. Not only on the goal you are aiming to meet, but finding out how others achieved the same thing. For example, I am currently preparing to return to school. I know that when I was in school before, I struggled with time management and studying. You will be surprised how many YouTubers, bloggers, and Pinterest posts talk about study hacks, how to be organized as a student, some talk about how they wanted to give up and lend encouraging words to keep going. Drown in the information. Look up webinars, workshops, pick up a book, follow a group Facebook page--do it all! The more information you get will keep you reminded and focused on the goal you’ve set as well as help you get there. Not constantly making it your focus will make it that much more likely that it will fall by the wayside.

2. Not sticking to the small things: Perhaps the reason why it’s so hard to get to the gym 3x a week is because we totally throw away the opportunity to take our vitamins every day that sit right on the bathroom counter. If we continue to pass up the opportunity to be consistent with the small things, we are training our brains to stop doing things after the hype of setting the goal wears off.

3. Waiting to complete the goal to live the life: You don’t just become anything. There’s a few women that I admire in business that are very open about their journeys and how the reached the level of success they are currently at. Every last one of them talked about the journey. Stop focusing on the outcome. It sounds so cliché but it’s a cliché because it’s so true! Enjoy the journey. Walk the walk. If you know you want to be a real estate agent, dress like one, speak like one, go to a real estate workshop to network with others! Don’t wait! There may be opportunities that you miss because you’re so focused on making a grand arrival. Don't be afraid to be up and coming.

4. Not being accountable: Sometimes our goals scare us and we fail to share it with others. For me, I'm just not one for announcements. I'd rather let people see after the goal is met so my words are not empty. For example, with my blog, it took me about a month after starting it to publish and go live. I was so worried that once people saw it, I'd be expected to do more and I didn't want to be a disappointment and not keep it going. But that's exactly what I needed! Once I went live and people that support me saw what I was doing, they'd ask, "When are you going to post again?" It keeps me accountable. Once you announce something, someone's going to follow up. I've also began to network with other bloggers/vloggers and we keep each other reminded to keep it up. Find your accountability partners and keep each other encouraged!
