It's the Healing for Me...

Oftentimes, we credit traumatic events for changing who we are and having a huge impact on how we view ourselves and the world. However, I'm inclined to believe that while the traumatic events serve as a catalyst for change, the healing process is what truly shapes who we are. The good news about that is we have no control over the event (wound) but we have all the control over the healing. In the natural, when our skin is broken due to an injury, whether we caused it or not, it forces us to acknowledge the tear in that area of our body (or lives). It hurts most at the time of the injury, but over time, if we give that area special attention (talking about it, therapy, prayer, being honest about how we feel), as time passes and there is often a scar, but we can ensure it's not as easily seen or easily irritated if we tend to it well while the wound is open. I have a huge scar on my left leg because when I was cut, my parents decided it would heal fine on its own, and didn't want to be bothered with doctor visits, and hospital bills.

.

Also, even when we go to the doctor (God) to care for the wounds, we often still have things that we have to do at home (cleaning and dressing the wound) to help aid the healing process.

.

.

I encourage us all to deal with our traumas sooner than later so we don't call our uncared-for wounds our "personality."
