Eagerly Watch

So, I have an index card in my bathroom that has Psalms 5:3 on it; it reads, "In the morning, Lord, you will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to you and eagerly watch." I have heard "pray and watch," "watch and pray" forever in church but lately it has really fallen heavily on my spirit to pay attention after I pray for God's guidance. Often, I expect a supernatural answer to my prayers. But God is not a magician. He, as the Creator of the universe, can operate in the practical and the supernatural. I have found myself saying, "Well I prayed about this but God hasn't given an answer yet." But I wasn't EAGERLY WATCHING. I was expecting God to get MY attention instead of watching for His answer even in the small things. He has the power to hit me in the head with the answer but as we mature in Christ we must learn that He's not going to feed us milk forever, we also have to put in the work as He manifests His will in our lives.
A few weeks ago I was supposed to fast and pray for two days for a friend. It was the week of finals and I had a huge presentation due that, in classic "Tierra fashion," I'd put off until the last minute. Bad idea. I was really frustrated with the assignment and literally took all day completing it. Towards the evening I decided I needed all the strength and energy I could so I put the fast off until the next day and ordered a pizza so I could continue working. The next morning I had military drills and when I got up I prayed specifically that I wouldn't miss God during the day. I asked Him to help me to see Him even in the small things. During lunch, I went to eat with my coworker and another Sergeant in my building that I'd never met or been around before. As we ordered our food, I asked for the salmon, beans, and rice and handed my menu off, completely forgetting that today I was supposed to be in intentional prayer for someone. The sergeant that I didn't know looked at me as I handed the menu back to the waiter and said, "Girl, what you ordering all that food for? You know you're supposed to be fasting!" My mouth fell open and I looked at him and said, "Excuse me, what did you just say?" He looked at me in the eye and said, "Girl. What. You. Ordering. All. That. Food. For. You. Know. You. Suppose. To. Be. Fasting!" I stood completely in awe that someone that didn't know anything about a commitment that I had made to God would be calling me out right here, right now. But he was dead serious and I knew just how he said it, was just how God meant it. I said, "wait, how do you know that?" His serious face and tone lightened as he smirked and said, "oh I don't know. I was just joking with you. Are you really suppose to be?"
This is one reason why I love God, He has an amazing sense of humor! Some people may push that off as a coincidence that this guy chose to tell that joke on that day, at that time. But I know better. I know my God, and He was speaking to me through a stranger to let me know, "I let you make it yesterday since you had the presentation but you're not following through with your commitment and I SEE YOU!"
I encourage whoever sees this today to pray and watch. Eagerly watch! God never leaves us and He is always speaking to us so when we find ourselves unable to hear, it's not because He has moved away from us. We have moved away from Him or we are not still enough to hear Him speaking.
